Oncade Pays Over 100 Attendees Live During MAP Presentation in Manila
Stavros Lee told the Management Association of the Philippines that money is the last part of global business still waiting on banking hours, then paid the room to show it doesn't have to.
Manila, Philippines – Oncade CEO and Co-Founder Stavros Lee gave a talk "From Technology to Trajectory: The New Infrastructure of Possibility" at the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), and moved money across the Pacific live during the talk. Attendees scanned a QR code on screen, entered an email address, and were sent one US dollar from the United States. More than 100 people in the audience were paid before the talk ended.
The timing was the point. It was Tuesday morning in Manila and Monday night in New York, on a US public holiday. No branch was open and no bank batch was due to run. The dollars arrived anyway.
"Inside the Philippines, nobody thinks twice about sending pesos across town in seconds," said Stavros Lee, CEO and Co-Founder of Oncade. "What happened in that room is a dollar crossed the Pacific at the same speed, on a day the US banks were closed. We already expect email, documents and video calls to be delivered instantly. Money is the last place global business still accepts that the batch runs at month end."
Every wave of technology makes something expensive cheap
The keynote opened on a pattern the room already knew. Technology provides the opportunity for disrupting existing market leaders. Instragram, Uber, Grab, Google. In each case the value went to whoever reorganized around the abundance, not to whoever invented it.
The Philippines has done this before. When connectivity got cheap, the country organized around its talent, enabling the IT-BPM industry to earn billions of dollars and provide millions of jobs. Stavros argued that two more costs are collapsing now: intelligence, through AI, and moving money, through stablecoins.
On AI, his advice to the room was to sell outcomes rather than seats. A firm that bills for twenty support agents gets undercut. A firm that prices per ticket resolved, with AI doing volume and people doing judgment, keeps the margin AI creates.
The border is where the waiting sits
The Philippines already runs fast domestic rails in InstaPay, PESONet, QR Ph, with digital wallets like GCash and Maya. The dollars its businesses and families earn abroad still cross the border on correspondent banking built in the 1970s, and that last leg, from a dollar earned abroad to a peso account at home, is where the delay and cost sit.
Lee described stablecoins as the plumbing that removes it: a dollar that settles at any hour, and can be split by rule to every party it is owed to. An agency in Quezon City delivers final files to a client in Europe, and the invoice clears while the team is still in the office, with a partner firm's share routed to them automatically. A container is scanned at port, and one event pays the carrier, the trucker, the terminal and the insurer, instead of a freight forwarder fronting all of them and waiting weeks to be made whole.
"AI raises the stakes," said Lee. "When your AI agent finishes a job at 3am, you should be paid before you wake up. That takes money that moves as fast as software."
Three questions for Philippine business leaders
Lee closed by asking the audience to take three questions back to their own companies:
- Which of our costs is going to zero?
- What do we own that stays scarce?
- Are we pricing the work, or the outcome?
